In 1928, when the coming of the railway was a certainty, Mr. Raymond Courteau resigned from the Old Arborfield school board to devote his time, as senior trustee, organizing a school at Zenon Park.

The first meeting to organize a school district was held June 18, 1928. Mr. Mederic Foucher acted as chairman and Mr. Raymond Courteau as secretary. The proposed new school district was unanimously endorsed by about sixty residents who attended the meeting. When the Department of Education received the minutes of the meeting and the map of the proposed school district as well as the petition, they granted approval to build a new school.

The two-room school was erected on the SE corner of SE 24-47-13 W2, belonging to Mr. Maurice Courteau. He donated a 260 ft. by 416 ft. piece of land for the schoolyard. The carpenters were Mederic Foucher, Francois Ferdinand Carpentier and Jos. Toutant. A school barn was also built as well as an icehouse in which ice was packed in sawdust for the supply of drinking water. Jos. Toutant was caretaker for this school. A building was moved in the yard to provide a residence for the teacher and his family. This teacherage was used as a third classroom in 1935-1936. In 1938- 1939 a fourth classroom was opened for the first grade. In 1948, a new four-room school was built on the SW corner of NE 19-47-12 W2. There were then five classrooms with the one in the convent. The contractor for this school was Jean-Baptiste Godbout.

From 1949-1954, there were four classrooms on the main floor and two in the basement. In 1953, Mr. Louis- Philippe Hudon obtained the contract to build the north wing of the school with four more classrooms. From 1954-1958, there were eight classrooms. In 1958- 1959, there were 10 classrooms. There were two classrooms in the convent for a few years and an abandoned school building which was moved to accommodate two more grades.

The peak student enrolment was 386 in years 1961-1962 after which it declined gradually. About 1962, an east wing was added with four more classrooms, washrooms, principal’s office and a laboratory. In 1976, a trailer was moved into the school yard for use as an industrial arts classroom. At the time of writing, two school operate in Zenon Park, one school is French Immersion, in the other school, instruction is completely in French.
