McKague School District # 1264

In 1925 - Classes were held on the second floor

In February of 1925 McKague residents drew up a petition for the organization of a school district. The first school meeting was held on April 25, 1925. On June 15, 1925, the Saskatchewan Department of Education ordered the creation of the McKague S.D. No. 1264. A board of trustees including P. Falk, H. McKague, A.G. Major, and secretary L. Lindberg organized the construction of the school on a site chosen in the village. During the construction period the first classroom opened on the second floor of what is today the post office with R. H. Major as the first teacher.

In 1945 an additional classroom was added .
The Fern Glen school was moved to McKague in 1958 to serve as a third classroom. By this time McKague was part of the Tisdale School Unit and students from outlying schools, Reigate, Franklin, Lightwoods, Barrier, and Barford were bussed to McKague. Keith Higgins was their bus driver.

Mr. H. Bruce occupied the first teacherage in 1936 and in 1959, Mrs. H. Bakke lived in a teacherage that was moved in from East Sylvania.

In 1960 a beautiful new school was built complete with four modern classrooms and a large auditorium. The new school accommodated grades one to ten. In 1989 the school was closed. The last teachers were Dennis Dahlsjo, Darlene Leroux, and Brenda Brinsky.
