The original Valparaiso School was built in 1905 on land donated by Chris Green. The first trustees were Richard Woodfall, George Green, and John McKay. Lumber for the school was hauled from the sawmill at Chagoness. The first teachers were Miss Jesse Fleet and Mrs. Lemeul Green.

Chris Green remembers winter recesses; skating with his classmates on the river which ran nearby until (or after) the bell rang. They were tired and hence the plod back to school was slow. It meant detention every time. He also recalls curling in the isles with “jam can rocks”. Now those were the Good Old Days!
