The first meeting with the purpose of forming a school district was held in December of 1909. The school was built in 1911 and opened that fall with an enrollment of 23 students. Old Ridgedale School, as it was called after the Ridgedale Village school was built, was originally located in the R.M .of Connaught at SE 18-47-15-W2. Walter Garaway was the first teacher.

Ridgedale Rural School 1934

After the Ridgedale Village School was built in 1923, Old Ridgedale School was moved one mile west to SE11-47-16-W2. By 1942 with few pupils and a scarcity of teachers due to the war, the school was closed and the students attended the Ridgedale Town School.

The school reopened in 1946, after the end of the war, and remained open until 1958. The consolidation that occurred with the formation of the Tisdale School Unit resulted in the closing of all rural schools in the area. The students were bussed to Ridgedale. The last teacher was Terry Gingara. For a number of years the school was used as a community hall, but it slowly deteriorated and was burned down in 1981.
