Prior to 1925, meetings were held, materials obtained, construction started, and the name Madeliene de Vercheres was selected for the school by Rose Foucher. The name was later shorted to “Vercheres”. The school was to be built on NW 30 - 46 - 12 - W2nd. One of the ratepayers obtained a permit to take out logs to be sawed into lumber. This was done in order to save the $3000 debenture money for necessities such as doors, windows, and furnishings. Construction of the school was completed, a teacherage was built, and the school opened in September of 1925 with Honorius Pilon as the first teacher. There was one English family, the Minters, in the district at that time, all the others were French speaking.

The School soon became an important centre for community activities such as concerts, dances picnics, parties, and card games were all could enjoy an evening together. In 1949-50 the school and the teacherage were stuccoed.

In 1952 Vercheres school district became part of the Tisdale School Unit. In 1954 the school was closed and the children were bussed to Zenon Park and New Osgoode. The last teacher was Lena McConnell (nee Wilson). In 1955 the school was sold to the Valois family who owned the land. The Vercheres School District was dissolved on August 20, 1971.
