Caribou school was built on the SE 5-45-15-W2. The school opened in 1923. The first teacher was Muriel Buyers. Some of the other teachers were Gertrude Larson, Mabel Webb, Mr. McDonald, Hilda Lyons, Miss Curtis, Thelma Baldwin, Miss Currey, Edith Roswell, Edith (Parker) Christianson, Mrs. Borne, Miss Adair, Miss Marilyn Anderson (Peterson), Grace Erben, and Dorothy Woolsey. Many of the teachers boarded at Shorty Jackson’s mother’s residence located across the road form the school.

Some of the highlights of the school year included Arbour Day, a fun day for the students – cleaning the school yard in the morning, enjoying the afternoon playing ball, games, and feasting on pop and delicious home made ice-cream.

Field Days were held in the spring consisting of track and field events, ball games, good food, and that delicious homemade ice cream. All the parents came to this event and a good time was had by all.

The annual Christmas concert was always an exciting event for all the students and the parents. You could count on having a packed schoolhouse that evening.

A student often performed janitorial duties. They were paid ten dollars a month during the winter months and eight dollars per month in the summer. Wallace Craig was one of the student janitors. He even hauled cordwood for the school’s fuel supply. Wallace saved his hard earned money to purchase ‘savings stamps’ for five dollars each which he later cashed in for seven dollars per card. Terry Arnold was another student janitor who earned enough money to purchase for him a watch.

The school closed in the early nineteen fifties - prior to 1956.
