In 1905 this area was organized into a school district with an Englishman, Mr.Fennell choosing the name “Golburn” because of the goldenrod which made a stunning reflection in the river. Land in SW 4-44-14 W2 was purchased from Albert Cunningham for $50.00. As he lived on these grounds, Mr. Cunningham moved one quarter of a mile west of the school site. The move took place in 1904.

The school was built in the summer of 1905 and that fall there were five pupils enrolled. There were summer sessions at first because of the severe winter, poor transportation, and the distance to travel. The first teacher was Wynn Schell. The first trustees were John Furber, Albert Cunningham and E. W. Manchester. Over the years a barn and teacherage were added to the site.

By 1922 there were 64 pupils enrolled. In 1924 the original school was extended to meet the rapid increase in enrolment. (This is the building used as Golburn Fair Hall.) In 1937 the high school was built with William Furber supervisor of construction. (This is the stucco building with the cottage roof at the Golburn Fair Grounds.) Miss Maynes was the first principal.

The first graduate was Merle McLeod, who graduated in 1941. After the high school was built there were two teachers and two buildings. Grade 12 - high school was not offered after about 1948.

The school was closed in 1965. The school and community held a big picnic with former teachers and students to commemorate the sixty years of service to education in the area. The community continues to use the school site for the annual Golburn Fair.
