An organizational meeting was held on September 1, 1937 with eight ratepayers signing for the school. The name, “Ravenhurst,” referring to thicket (hursts) inhabited by the ever- present ravens, was put forth by G. Lomer.

On November 1, 1938, the school , situated on SE 31-46-11-W2, was opened in a temporary building owned by J. Warhurst. The Department of Education gave a grant to install three large windows. On September 1, 1940, the school year began in a new building. The former school was used as a teacherage with the owner receiving $2 per month for rent. Enrolment was always low, and in 1947, the school was closed for three years due to insufficient numbers of school-aged children. Improvements including brick roll siding and a block foundation were added during this closure.

From 1952-59 the school was unable to attract qualified teachers, so study supervisors were hired. Ravenhurst was closed permanently in 1959 and the children were bussed to Arborfield.
