.
.In 1933 a group of homesteaders gathered at a meeting and formed the school district. Since most of those present were bachelors, one of the three suggested names for the district was “Batchelor”. The name chosen by the Department of Education was “Bachelor” - with the “t” omitted.

Lumber for the school was obtained by the men of the district by cutting logs and sawing them at Marsh’s Mill. The men built the school under the foremanship of Ambrose Ellis. The desks were also homemade. The school was located at NE 10 - 44 - 10 W2. Bachelor school opened July 23, 1934 with Mrs. Gertrude Kirkland as the first teacher.

The school soon became the centre of community life and was used for church services, wedding dances, box and pie socials, ball and hockey games, picnics, and the annual Christmas Concert.

In 1959, because the area was now part of a larger school unit, Bachelor School closed and the students were bussed to Mistatim. Larry Allemeersch was the last teacher. Approximately 131 students attended Bachelor School over the 25 years it was in operation.
