Homesteaders in the area got together and cut, hauled and peeled enough spruce logs to build a 28 by 32 foot school. It was built on SE 11 - 45 - 9 W2 by Bill Deforest of Sylvania with the help of the local people.

Bannock School opened for classes in the spring of 1943 with Mrs. Bertha Legare as the teacher. The highlight of the summer was the school picnic where ball games, a picnic supper and an evening dance were enjoyed by all. At Christmas time there was always a children’s concert with lunch and a dance to follow. The school board would send a list of the children’s names to the T. Eaton Company in Winnipeg. Eatons would then gift wrap toys for each of the children and send them to the school in time for Santa Claus to hand them out.

The school was closed in 1956 and the students were bussed to Prairie River. The last teacher was Mrs. Mary Bone.
