In 1916 residents of the area obtained information on the formation of a school district. The first ratepayers’ meeting was held on August 5, 1916. The name chosen was the same name as the inland post office called Jordan River. The early settlers moving from the drought-stricken prairies were so impressed with the verdant growth as they crossed the little river they jokingly remarked that “they had crossed the River Jordan into the promised land.” Postal officials in Ottawa granted the name to the district and it became the name of the school, also. A $1100.00 debenture was issued and the school was opened on March 17, 1917.

The first building was moved to a more central location after a few years. A new school was constructed in 1945 on a third site at NE 24-48-11- W2.

In 1952 the rural schools became part of the Tisdale School Unit. Jordan River School was closed in June, 1965 and arrangements were made to transport the children to the school in Arborfield.

The school served as a community center until 1996 when the School Unit returned the yard site, including the school, to the landowner on whose property it had been built.
