.
Stacks Image 2009
The first record is an official petition form, supplied by the Department of Education for the formation of a public school district dated at Carrot River (Silver Stream' s first post office) October 7, 1907. A second petition for the formation of a school district is dated December 13, 1907. This one is stamped “Approved” by the Department of Education. The suggested name “Riverside” is crossed out and the name “Silver Stream” is written in. The first meeting of the new school district #2011 was held in the home of James Randall on February 1, 1908. James Harvey was elected as the first board chairman. On April 4, 1908 the school board received authorization to borrow $1300 to purchase a building site and build a 24 by 26 foot school. School taxes were set at 5¢ per acre. During the winter of 1908 the school was built on the NE corner of SE 15-47-14-W2 purchased from Charlie Wegmiller. The school opened in March 1908 with ten pupils registered. The first teacher was Lillian Coote. She was hired as teacher for one hundred days at $55 per month.

In July, 1917, the school was moved 1⁄2 mile south and 1⁄4 mile east to NE 11-47-14-W2. A teacherage was built on the school grounds in 1947. In 1959-60 the Tisdale School Division replaced the aging Silver Stream building with the
more modern Treasure School. Ned Pearce purchased the original school and moved it one mile north to his yard site. By 1960 the enrolment was down to nine students. The school was closed in 1961 and the students transferred to Leacross. In 1963 the Silver Stream Ladies Club purchased the school building for community activities.
